MSLAB AGM 2026 & Public Talk on LAB-Derived Postbiotics

The Malaysian Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria (MSLAB) successfully organized its AGM 2026 alongside a public scientific talk titled “Lactic Acid Bacteria-Derived Postbiotics from Lab to Market: Sharing the Path to Commercialization” on 2 April 2026 at the Agro-Biotechnology Institute (ABI), NIBM, Serdang. The event brought together researchers, students, and industry stakeholders interested in the advancement of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and their applications.

The talk was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Joo Shun from Universiti Sains Malaysia, a recognized expert in bioprocess engineering and fermentation technology. In his presentation, he highlighted the growing importance of postbiotics—non-viable microbial products with significant health and functional benefits. He provided valuable insights into the complete development pipeline, from strain selection and fermentation optimization to scale-up, formulation, and commercialization.

Participants gained a deeper understanding of how LAB-derived postbiotics can be translated from laboratory research into viable industrial products, including key considerations such as regulatory compliance, safety assessment, and intellectual property protection.

The session concluded with active engagement from attendees, reflecting strong interest in bridging academic research with industry application. This initiative aligns with MSLAB’s mission to promote knowledge sharing and innovation in the field of lactic acid bacteria.
